Paula Abdul says she's optimistic about remaining as an American Idol judge and says the show has invited her back for a ninth season and beyond — subject to the negotiation of a new contract.

Abdul told The Associated Press in an interview on Monday in Atlanta that she's been invited to stay for the duration of the show. She was backstage at the new television show Drop Dead Diva, which premieres on July 12.

Abdul's contract, which expired after the eighth season, has not been renewed. There has been speculation that Abdul would be replaced by Kara DioGuardi, who was recently added as a judge.

The 47-year-old singer-dancer says she hopes a deal can be arranged so she can return to the hit show.

We've just learned Michael Jackson has died. He was 50.


Michael suffered a cardiac arrest earlier this afternoon at his Holmby
Hills home and paramedics were unable to revive him. We're told when
paramedics arrived Jackson had no pulse and they never got a pulse
back.


A source tells us Jackson was dead when paramedics arrived. A
cardiologist at UCLA tells TMZ Jackson died of cardiac arrest.


Once at the hospital, the staff tried to resuscitate him but he was
completely unresponsive.


We're told one of the staff members at Jackson's home called 911.


La Toya ran in the hospital sobbing after Jackson was pronounced dead.

Just as Heroes was gaining some creative momentum comes word of
another setback: Bryan Fuller has vacated his post as consulting
producer.


The acclaimed Pushing Daisies auteur tells me that he left to focus on
developing new projects for NBC, and not (as some have speculated) due
to creative differences with series creator Tim Kring.


"I'm crafting two pilots right now and it's a lot of work," admits
Fuller, who has an overall deal with NBC. "It was just too hard to
[juggle] Heroes and my development; something had to give."


Fuller's exit was first reported by Herc at Ain't It Cool News.


Fuller returned to Heroes last December, shortly after ABC dropped the
ax on Daisies. Many (yours truly included) credited him with the
show's end-of-season creative rebirth.

CSI: Miami star Eva La Rue has become the latest celebrity to fall

nuptials.The twice-wed actress was hoping to make it third time lucky

Buffy the Vampire Slayer may be heading to the big screen, in what is being labeled a remake or relaunch, rather than a sequel or prequel.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Buffy" creator Joss Whedon is not involved and the project is not set up at a studio, but Roy Lee and Doug Davison of Vertigo Entertainment are in talks with original movie director Fran Rubel Kuzui and her husband, Kaz Kuzui to bring this remake to theaters.

While Whedon is the person most associated with "Buffy," Kuzui and her Kuzui Enterprises have held onto the rights since the beginning, when she discovered the "Buffy" script from then-unknown Whedon. She developed the script while her husband put together the financing to make the 1992 movie, which was released by Fox.

Kuzui later teamed with Gail Berman, then president of Sandollar Television, bringing back Whedon to make the TV series, which was produced by Fox TV and launched on the WB in 1997. Kuzui and Sandollar received executive producer credits on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its spinoff, Angel.

The new "Buffy" film, however, would have no connection to the TV series, nor would it use popular supporting characters like Angel, Willow, Xander or Spike. Vertigo and Kuzui are looking to restart the story line without trampling on the beloved existing universe created by Whedon, putting the parties in a similar situation faced by Paramount, J.J. Abrams and his crew when relaunching Star Trek.

One of the underlying ideas of "Buffy" allows Vertigo and Kuzui to do just that: that each generation has its own vampire slayer to protect it. The goal would be to make a darker, event-sized movie that would, of course, have franchise potential.

Multiple sources are confirming that NBC is threatening to replace
Mariska Hargitay and Chris Meloni on Law & Order: SVU if the actors
persist in their demands for more money.


Last week, NBC closed a deal with L&O boss Dick Wolf for an 11th
season of SVU -- which, at 10.5 million viewers, remains the Peacock's
No. 1 scripted show. That opened the door to a new round of
negotiations with the stars, whose $350K-per-episode contracts will
expire in May. Yet a source close to the matter said talks stalled
when the duo -- who, like in their previous negotiations, are banding
together -- attempted to go after back-end profits, a perk that's
almost never granted in the L&O universe (although exceptions were
made for Vincent D'Onofrio and Chris Noth).
