MAJOR AND CABLE NETWORKS- NEED TO READ THIS GEORGETOWN STUDY!

Georgetown University's McDonough School of Business and emotion measurement leader Canvs today announced a joint study on how television show audience Emotional Reactions (ERs) impact the following week's live airing viewership. The study -- Reacting to Actors, Characters, and Programs: Social TV Content and Television Viewing Behavior -- found that certain viewer ERs in response to talent can predict an increase in live tune-in the following episode.
The study was led by David Schweidel, professor of marketing, Georgetown McDonough, who will be incorporating the Canvs emotion measurement dashboard into his course, "Leveraging Social Media." Georgetown McDonough is the first partner in Canvs' new Academic Partnership Program, which launched in fall 2017, and focuses on building strategic partnerships between the emotion measurement experts at Canvs and key marketing research and psychology professors at key top-tier universities. For more information or to be considered for the program, please contact marketing@canvs.tv
"Talent not only drives emotions, but also live viewer tune-in week over week," said Schweidel. "Further, there is a sustained effect of talent-driven ERs increasing live and time-shifted viewership over multiple weeks."
With appointment viewing on the decline, it's more important than ever for networks to understand what is driving live viewing. The study looked at 621 episodes across 55 primetime scripted programs across broadcast networks (ABC, FOX, NBC, CBS, The CW) and spanning genres (Action/Adventure, Comedy, Drama, Sci-Fi/Fantasy). All programs aired Q1 2017 (January - March).
Key Findings
  • Show-specific ERs have a positive impact on live viewing.
  • Talent-related ERs had twice the impact as general emotional reactions, but much less common.
  • In one example, NBC's This Is Us enjoyed more than a 10 percent increase in live viewers from episode 17 to 18 thanks to a spike in total ERs driven by talent.
  • Furthermore, there is a sustained effect over multiple weeks, with talent-driven ERs increasing live and time-shifted viewership over the following three to four weeks.

"This study proves emotions not only drive increased live viewership week over week, but also improve the number of time-shifted viewers in the first three days after a show airing," said Jared Feldman, CEO at Canvs. "With OTT and subscription services on the rise, there's a strong indication audience's Emotional Reactions will align with subscription retention as well."
Canvs was founded in 2014 to help media companies inform their TV programming results from reactions on Twitter. Today, with API access to YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and with their own API, Canvs is empowers media companies, technology platforms, brands and agencies to decode the troves of social banter across platforms. Companies that trust Canvs for emotion analytics include: Netflix, FOX, NBC, Viacom, Warner Brothers, Sony Entertainment, Initiative, Lionsgate, Pilgrim Studios, PopSugar, StyleHaul, Creative Artist Agency, Assembly, and 360i, among countless more.

THE NEW DEAL IS ON! SAG-AFTRA AND PRODUCERS SHAKE HANDS ON $256 MILLION INCREASE.

Dear Member,

We are thrilled to announce that we have reached a tentative agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) on successor agreements covering motion pictures, scripted primetime dramatic television and new media production.

Significant improvements were secured in the residuals rate paid to performers for exhibition of their performances on streaming platforms like Netflix and Amazon. Under the new terms, actors will receive residuals for exhibition on subscription video on-demand platforms earlier, now after 90 days instead of after one year. The new formula delivers a 300% increase in residuals to performers within their first two years when their work is exhibited worldwide on Netflix.

SAG-AFTRA achieved a historic breakthrough in the rules governing travel for television performers, including an up to five-fold increase in the fees due to series performers who work at locations away from home. The travel rules for television have been rationalized and clarified, closing many loopholes and ambiguities that have allowed for abuse.

Series performer option rules were greatly improved, with the effect of reducing exclusivity periods for many series performers during which they can be held off the market.
In an unprecedented breakthrough, the new deal improves the overtime provisions for background actors working in the West Coast Zones so that they match New York standards while protecting against the attempted removal of night premiums in the New York Zone. Additionally, the committee improved the pay rate for photo doubles and achieved superior terms for background actors employed under the CW Supplement.

The committee also secured an additional 5 percent increase in the first year of the contract for stunt coordinators working under flat deal contracts in television.
Additionally, there is a first-year increase of .5 percent in the contribution rate applicable to the SAG Pension Plan and the AFTRA Retirement Fund, bringing the total benefits contribution rate to 17.5 percent. The union may also elect to convert an additional one half of one percent from the wage package in each of the second and third year.

Highlights of the tentative agreement include:
  • Total package valued at $256 million over three years
  • 3-year agreement commencing July 1, 2017 and expiring June 30, 2020
  • Wage increases of 2.5 percent in the first year, 3 percent in the second year and 3 percent in the third year
  • Half percent increase in the current rate of employer contributions paid to the SAG Pension Plan and AFTRA Retirement Fund in the first year of the agreement, raising the total contribution rate to 17.5 percent effective July 1, 2017
  • Secured an additional .2 percent increase in funding to the SAG-AFTRA industry cooperative funds, which will support monitoring animal safety on sets, safety training and sexual harassment prevention training
  • Achieved recognition of Middle Eastern North African as a diverse category in the casting data report
  • Agreement to study the design and implementation of an electronic reporting system for performer work times
  • Improved residuals for programming made for SVOD (subscription video-on-demand)
    • First residual is now due in 90 days rather than one year
    • Increase in the residual rate
    • First ever residuals compensation for foreign use
  • Improvements to money and schedule breaks
  • Improvements to the advertiser-supported streaming residuals
  • Outsized increase of 18 percent for background actors working under the CW supplement
  • Terms requiring that all background actors be paid double-time starting after 10 hours of work
The new three-year agreement will be presented to the SAG-AFTRA National Board of Directors for their approval on July 15 to be followed by a member ratification vote. Watch your email for further updates.
Thank you for your participation and involvement. Your steadfast support of SAG-AFTRA on social media vividly clarified to management that our negotiators had the strong backing of the board and our membership. This unity granted us the strength and leverage to achieve real gains on some of our membership’s most pressing items.
In unity,

And thankfully I did!"

"There is no better way to introduce the next generation of Hollywood to the importance of MPTF to this industry than the creative talent brought together to tell the stories of the people helped by this charity," said Jeffrey Katzenberg, Chairman of the MPTF Foundation.  "My thanks to Will Arnett for hosting and to the talented actors and writers who are giving so generously of their talent to bring to life the mission of caring for our own in these compassionate real-life stories."
CEO of MPTF Foundation Ken Scherer said, "MPTF Foundation is truly fortunate to have the force of nature that has become what we affectionately call Team Valenti – my thanks to Guymon Casady, Bill Gerber, Karen Rosenfelt, Kevin McCormick, Greg Sills, Courtenay Valenti, and Warren Zavala – for channeling their individual passion into creating this event that has built awareness and motivated engagement with the next generation of Hollywood. And out of this event has emerged a new Next Gen group under the leadership of Natalie Bruss and Zachary Browning," Scherer concluded.

JOURNAL OF A STRUGGLING ARTIST- TV AUDIENCE WORK FOR GSN'S LINGO.
(NEW SEGMENT.)

F$#@ Them at that three-lettered company!!

The white guy with a brownish, chicken head Mohawk seemed nice enough. Then, he begin the usually LYING,biogotd tirades I write here TOO often, not just by him. A pimp dressed black man and usually fat arsed and ignorantly cute, Latina friend joined him by the dirty pimp saying " I always thought you were one," and the dumpy Latina trying make a Loser Sign, forgetting that now means you a fan of Glee specifically. I've NEVER BEEN rude or unprofessional to anyone there, unlike them. Still, I must commend the work of a decent British Fellow, who appears to try to do right by every one there (at other shows, he wasn't there today.)

Getting back to the alleged, white bigot who signed on Two WHITE girls, because they white, right in front in front of us. They had just arrived and got in, while the rest of us had been there an hour at the point. He declared he didn't care because
"I already HAVE a job," as he smirked with one of the confirmed audience members, who too was real late.

Personally, I think I'VE been barred- since I wrote about similar hate mongering and bullying about going back to 2008's American Gladiators.

Lastly, one of the men-a Lingo staffer- said there was one chair left and picked the one WHITE guy ,who wasn't business casually dressed and gave the last seat. Everyone else left, were black folk- properly attired, as per their dress code request.

I don't care about being liked by stupid idiots, but I don't deserve this level of constant disrespect or bullying anymore, not being apart of their clique, none of us do.

RYAN SEACREST, THE NEW LITTLE BIG MAN IN PRIME-
Lilo to create the next For Love or Money.

Power Host Seacrest, has signed a new deal "on contract extension with Idol co-producer 19 Entertainment to continue to emcee the top series on TV."

His new three year deal, will continue to drive nemeses, Joel McHale and Kathy Griffin, green with homophobic envy-as he earn $45 million for taking shit from Simon Cowell. This raise "makes him one of the highest-paid reality hosts on television."

He only earned $5 million (this season) for his Idol work- around $100K an episode. The deal continues the host's challenge to produce a hit show, that's half as popular as TV's 8000 lb gorilla.

Meanwhile, Lindsey Lohan is ready to take charge- Sandy Bullock style- as she launches a chance "to create unforgettable TV and movie content with a new production company."Lilo and her 6126 brand co-owner Kristi Kaylor, (titled from Marilyn Monroe's birthday,) have started Unforgettable Prods.

First up, is a reality show, Faux Real, an Entourage for the fashionistas. Then, a big money,in-studio, dating game show "tentatively called That's What Friends Are For and then this "docu-cause" TV program that will made into "a charitable organization."

WANDA BACK AT LARGE ON FOX.

-The sapphic comic to get Sat. late night show, as a test for a weeknight slot.

Broadcasting Cable.com has confirmed the show for Jan 2010 at 11pm. The hour program will ape Bill Maher's current HBO format, rather than do another Leno/Letterman retread.

The Idol network has cancelled- the Best of Mad TV, thereby putting ne'er do well, Spike Feresten on notice- to shape up or ship out. Fox was unmoved by his anemic performance, of his brief "trial run at 11."

The fourth network will limit its appeal to Saturdays for now, unless they find the "right talent" to reattempt a weeknight show, and network execs maybe leaning toward Sykes. Also, the inside sources claimed, the triple minority status of Sykes- gives Fox a chance to cultivate good will with two different audiences, normally shunned in late night.

Later.
