CO-CO'S MESSAGE TO NBC: "GO TO HELL!" AND HE MAY HAVE ALREADY GOTTEN HIS WISH.

From The wrap.com

Ratings are the best revenge. And if these numbers hold, "Conan" had a very sweet debut for TBS, served cold.

In his first night back on the air in over nine months, Conan O’Brien bested David Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel and -- most importantly for O'Brien and his followers -- Jay Leno.

Conan’s new TBS show scored a 2.8 rating among Nielsen’s 56 metered markets. In contrast, Leno earned a 2.7 rating, Letterman drew 2.5, and Kimmel received a 1.7.

Against his Comedy Central competition, the ginger-haired comic also fared well. "The Daily Show" earned a 1.5 rating, while "The Colbert Report" nabbed a 1.1 rating.

The real challenge will be maintaining the lead over the next few weeks and months. An executive from a rival show said that he expects O'Brien's numbers will dip once the curiosity factor wanes.

Moreover, with the exception of Stewart, they do not represent head-to-head matchups, as Leno and Letterman both kick off their show at 11:30 p.m., while O'Brien begins his 30 minutes earlier.

LENO CONCEDES: NBC TRY TO SHORTEN HIS TENURE ON TONIGHT-YEARS AGO.
-They wanted to give the job to Conan O'Brien,as early as thirty-six months ago.

From UPI-

U.S. comedian Jay Leno says NBC executives originally planned for him to serve as host of The Tonight Show for a shorter time.

Leno, who will premiere his new prime time TV series on NBC next week,
said he was informed by NBC officials- five years ago- that they wanted to
replace him with comedian Conan O'Brien within three years, The New York Times
reported Saturday.

"Actually, they wanted me out in three years," said Leno, who departed
the Tonight Show in May. "I had to argue to get the other two. Oh, yeah.
I said: 'Let's make it five. You want me out? I'll do five.'"

Leno's recollection of those past events has been questioned by Rick
Ludwin, NBC's executive in charge of late-night programs.

"That is definitely not my recollection," Ludwin said. "I don't
remember three years being mentioned."

Now both sides are betting on the success of The Jay Leno Show with
NBC heavily promoting the new prime time series due to premiere Tonight.

"It's just so embarrassing," Leno told the Times of his response to
the wealth of "Leno" promotions. "It's a genetic fault that makes you go into
show business. It's not a plus."

WANDA BACK AT LARGE ON FOX.

-The sapphic comic to get Sat. late night show, as a test for a weeknight slot.

Broadcasting Cable.com has confirmed the show for Jan 2010 at 11pm. The hour program will ape Bill Maher's current HBO format, rather than do another Leno/Letterman retread.

The Idol network has cancelled- the Best of Mad TV, thereby putting ne'er do well, Spike Feresten on notice- to shape up or ship out. Fox was unmoved by his anemic performance, of his brief "trial run at 11."

The fourth network will limit its appeal to Saturdays for now, unless they find the "right talent" to reattempt a weeknight show, and network execs maybe leaning toward Sykes. Also, the inside sources claimed, the triple minority status of Sykes- gives Fox a chance to cultivate good will with two different audiences, normally shunned in late night.

Later.
