CELEBRTIY Q AND A: LADY CHAMPION BOXER CRIS "CYBORG" VENANCIO!
In early December, I was at the Mia St. John Foundation fundraiser gala,at the 10e eatery in Downtown Los Angeles. I asked the Brazilian-American UFC champion, if she went to prison to get her plethora of shoulder tattoos? She seems stunned at the remark. She even looks at her right shoulder artwork.
She just smiled and answered, in a thick Sofia Vergara style accent,"No" she shrugged "I'm just tough." Then, she playfully throws a few quick, but powerful punches. Her shadow boxing is so brief, I could feel the air from her phantom blows, from just a few feet away.
Later that night,I asked Cyborg-How will she do against her next opponent- Holly Holm? The woman that defeated and pretty much ended Ronda Roussey's big time fight career. She again struggled to understand my English and sweetly said,"I'll see. I'll do my best. It WILL be competitive."

CAN ONE QUESTION SAVE THE USA?
A year after the historically divisive 2016 elections, a new documentary
is challenging Americans to stop blaming others and question how their
own decisions and actions shape the contours of our society and our
country. By asking questions about family, money, religion, civics and
more, the film gets viewers to question whether the divisions in our
society truly stem from group dynamics, or if we're all part of the
problem as individuals.
A teaser for the film was released today to audiences worldwide.
"The American Question," produced by Guy Seemann – a political veteran and entrepreneur who's lived all over the world and directed by James Kicklighter – a Hollywood filmmaker raised in rural Georgia, profiles dozens of Americans from across the political, economic and social spectrum in search of these answers, going far deeper than just getting people together to find some superficial common ground.
The film explores this question through the lens of history, deteriorating civic education and evolving culture rather than rehashing the 2016 election. After conducting dozens of interviews of people from different walks of life all across the country, the creators believe something much bigger is at work, and that it has the potential to threaten the status of America as a superpower.
"We found that our divides had nothing to do with the election," Seemann said. "Fights spring up over core values which are supposed to unite us as a nation. Religion, speech, equality, opportunity -- these concepts kept coming up over and over again."
"This is a unique period in time, but the identity crisis we're feeling is part of a cyclical pattern in this country. After our nation unites to defeat a common enemy – the imperial British, slavery and secession or the Nazis, we tend to lose our cohesiveness. This time, though, we have to address this issue or our status as a cohesive entity – let alone a superpower – is under threat," he added.
Kicklighter continued, "there's a set of values that define what it means to be an American. I heard people from all corners of the country saying the other side did not have their interests in mind. A fascinating pattern unfolded about the broader culture here, and we are trying to figure out what's causing it and what it means."
"What's dangerous is when someone comes to a different set of conclusions based on their ideological perspective and pegs the other as an enemy simply because the other doesn't agree with their individualized ideology," Kicklighter said. "I hope The American Question helps people recognize that their neighbor is as American as they are. That's the starting point we need to get to," he said.
With entire communities in crisis due to this breakdown over America's core values, the filmmakers are looking to spark a national conversation to encourage viewers to rethink how they themselves approach their own life decisions as well as their perceived differences with their neighbors. Seemann, Kicklighter and their national team want to enable them to reconcile over the shared values laid out in the founding documents which have helped the country overcome adversity since its founding.

SEND YOUR RESUMES, TO THE QUAD.
The producers of the groundbreaking BET drama The Quad have
selected 8 students from historically Black colleges and universities
(HBCUs) to participate in a paid internship program that provides the
unique opportunity to train in multiple departments while Season 2 of
the series is in production.
The Quad received over 250 applications for the 8 openings. The students selected for the internship are: Maya Eaddy (Spelman College); Brandon Gilpin (Morehouse College); Nia Jones (Clark Atlanta University); Trishunda Mooney (Clark Atlanta University); Kirsten Danielle Owens (Clark Atlanta University); Quenten McNair (Clark Atlanta University); Denard Thomas (Florida A&M University); and Mykayla Williamson (Spelman College).
Designed by Executive Producers Felicia D. Henderson and Rob Hardy, The Quad Internship Program gives back to the community the show represents by training the next generation of Black leaders in the entertainment industry.
"We consider it an honor to help prepare the next generation of content creators by providing them with a window into the production process. So we're giving students with a passion for television production a chance to train with seasoned professionals," said Ms. Henderson, Co-Creator and Executive Producer of The Quad and faculty member in the Radio-Television-Film Department at The University of Texas at Austin.
Interns will begin training in November 2017 on The Quad stages and locations around Atlanta, GA. There will be two internship cycles, each one providing exposure to writing, producing, cinematography, production design, location management, costume design, hair and make-up applications, and the grip and electric departments.
"We're starting with colleges and universities in the Atlanta University Center because The Quad is shot on their campuses. It's only fair that the students here get first opportunity. They have been gracious and understanding as we inconvenience their lives in our efforts to add authenticity to our show. However, we plan to expand the internship program every season the show is renewed," said Ms. Henderson. As the alma mater of Mr. Hardy and series star Anika Noni Rose (Dr. Eva Fletcher), Florida A&M University is also included in the program's inaugural year.
The Quad's second season premieres January 23, 2018 on BET.
The Quad Internship Program is sponsored by Capital Arts Media (the studio that produces the series), WaterWalk Productions (Ms. Henderson's company), Rain Forrest Entertainment (Mr. Hardy's company), and BET Networks.

The straight & mild mannered reporter at the "shithead," & called him "Lying White Trash!" Poulter looked confused and went silent. He walked away for just over 10 minutes.
Next,The Revenant star returned to the man. The source, was sampling some food. Poulter then, made a racist remark involving, looking like "an ape" and something involving "a banana."
The handicapped source, then screamed at the "Stupid Redneck!" to leave him alone. For the second time: Gally, the dumb Maze Runner, was silently baffled. He finally left the man alone & left the store.

SAG-AFTRA REACHES DEAL W/ VIDEO GAME INDUSTRY!
Dear Member,
We
have great news. Our negotiating committee has reached an agreement to
end the strike against 11 video game companies that has been ongoing
since October 21, 2016. Accordingly,
you are free to resume working for the companies that were struck on
all titles effective immediately.
I
want to acknowledge the incredible work of the SAG-AFTRA Interactive
Negotiating Committee, chaired by Keythe Farley. Their commitment to
reflecting the concerns and the
voices of the member community is embodied in this agreement.
The
terms of the tentative agreement, which was reached early Saturday
morning, resolved two points of contention we had with the employers:
transparency and secondary compensation.
First, it instituted a new bonus structure that provides an additional payment to performers
beyond their session fee. The newly-bargained terms also include significant improvements in the area of transparency.
This
expanded information will empower performers and their representatives
to bargain knowledgeably for compensation and to understand the nature
of the performance that will
be required, both of which have been a challenge for our members in an
environment characterized by code names and secrecy.
The National Board will vote on the contract at its October meeting.
The new terms take effect upon ratification.
In
the meantime, members are free to provide covered services pursuant to
the expired terms of the prior Interactive Media Agreement with the
struck companies effective immediately.
Strength in unity,
Gabrielle Carteris

GET MUSIC FROM, THIS IS US.
This Is Us (Music from the Series), a companion to the show America loves, is available September 15 via UMe. This Is Us: The Complete First Season will be available on DVD three days earlier so fans can relive all the moments along with the music from the hit show. With instantly recognizable hits and classics, an original song and a compelling score, the soundtrack features 20 songs curated by "This Is Us" Creator/Executive Producer Dan Fogelman and his team, music supervisor Jennifer Pyken and composer/musician Siddhartha Khosla. Each musical element is carefully woven throughout the series, with the songs clearly defining a moment or serving as a gentle guide through the complex emotional journey.
Nominated for 10 Emmy Awards including Outstanding Drama Series, "This Is Us" chronicles the Pearson family across the decades: from Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and Rebecca (Mandy Moore) as young parents in the 1980s and 1990s to their now adult kids Kevin (Justin Hartley), Kate (Chrissy Metz) and Randall (Sterling K. Brown) searching for love, fulfillment and healing in the present day. This grounded, life-affirming dramedy reveals how the events in our lives – both big and small – impact who we become, and how the connections we share with each other can transcend time, distance and even death. Chris Sullivan, Susan Kelechi Watson and Ron Cephas Jones also star. "This Is Us" Season 2 premieres Tuesday, September 26 at 9pm on NBC.
The soundtrack opens with "Death With Dignity" by Sufjan Stevens, instantly recognizable as a tone-setting music cue from the series' debut episode, and concludes with "This Is Us Score Suite" by Khosla. Also featured is a rare cover version of Peter Gabriel's "Come Talk To Me" by Khosla's critically acclaimed band Goldspot, which has been praised by Gabriel himself, and "We Can Always Come Back To This," the original song composed by Khosla and Chris Pierce, performed by Brian Tyree Henry in Season 1's pivotal "Memphis" episode. The soulful, Stax-inspired song connected with the show's audience, topping Billboard's Blues Singles chart at No. 1 for four consecutive weeks and reaching No. 12 on iTunes' Top 100 Songs chart.
In continuing with the personal theme of familial relationships of the show, Goldspot's "Evergreen Cassette (Tape Mix)" draws on Khosla's early childhood experience of living in India with his grandparents while his parents were in the U.S., working and attending graduate school. His only form of communication with his parents was being sent an evergreen-colored cassette tape by his mother, who would speak to him, sing songs and tell him stories. "This Is Us" creator Dan Fogelman was an early fan and supporter of Goldspot.
This Is Us: The Complete First Season DVD includes all 18 episodes as well as the companion series, "The Aftershow," that explores the emotional dramatic performances with the cast and creators. Each DVD comes with a free 8x8 Shutterfly Photo Book ($29.99 Value) Offer. Turn your favorite memories into a "This Is Us" photo book everyone can cherish.
From the writer and directors of Crazy, Stupid, Love, the team of Dan Fogelman, John Requa and Glenn Ficarra come together again for "This Is Us."
Dan Fogelman, Jess Rosenthal, Ken Olin, John Requa, Glenn Ficarra, Charlie Gogolak, Isaac Aptaker, Elizabeth Berger executive produce. "This Is Us" is produced by 20th Century Fox Television.

THE NEW DEAL IS ON! SAG-AFTRA AND PRODUCERS SHAKE HANDS ON $256 MILLION INCREASE.
Dear Member,
We
are thrilled to announce that we have reached a tentative agreement
with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) on
successor agreements covering motion pictures, scripted primetime
dramatic television and new media production.
Significant
improvements were secured in the residuals rate paid to performers for
exhibition of their performances on streaming platforms like Netflix and
Amazon. Under the new terms, actors will receive residuals for
exhibition on subscription video on-demand platforms earlier, now after
90 days instead of after one year. The new formula delivers a 300%
increase in residuals to performers within their first two years when
their work is exhibited worldwide on Netflix.
SAG-AFTRA
achieved a historic breakthrough in the rules governing travel for
television performers, including an up to five-fold increase in the fees
due to series performers who work at locations away from home. The
travel rules for television have been rationalized and clarified,
closing many loopholes and ambiguities that have allowed for abuse.
Series
performer option rules were greatly improved, with the effect of
reducing exclusivity periods for many series performers during which
they can be held off the market.
In
an unprecedented breakthrough, the new deal improves the overtime
provisions for background actors working in the West Coast Zones so that
they match New York standards while protecting against the attempted
removal of night premiums in the New York Zone. Additionally, the
committee improved the pay rate for photo doubles and achieved superior
terms for background actors employed under the CW Supplement.
The
committee also secured an additional 5 percent increase in the first
year of the contract for stunt coordinators working under flat deal
contracts in television.
Additionally,
there is a first-year increase of .5 percent in the contribution rate
applicable to the SAG Pension Plan and the AFTRA Retirement Fund,
bringing the total benefits contribution rate to 17.5 percent. The union
may also elect to convert an additional one half of one percent from
the wage package in each of the second and third year.
Highlights of the tentative agreement include:
-
Total package valued at $256 million over three years
-
3-year agreement commencing July 1, 2017 and expiring June 30, 2020
-
Wage increases of 2.5 percent in the first year, 3 percent in the second year and 3 percent in the third year
-
Half percent increase in the current rate of employer contributions paid to the SAG Pension Plan and AFTRA Retirement Fund in the first year of the agreement, raising the total contribution rate to 17.5 percent effective July 1, 2017
-
Secured an additional .2 percent increase in funding to the SAG-AFTRA industry cooperative funds, which will support monitoring animal safety on sets, safety training and sexual harassment prevention training
-
Achieved recognition of Middle Eastern North African as a diverse category in the casting data report
-

WYCLEF JEAN'S NEW CARNIVAL.
In addition, Wyclef Jean has released two new tracks "What Happened To Love" produced by The Knocks via CNN and "Fela Kuti" produced by Supah Mario via XXL today. Listen to "What Happened To Love" and "Fela Kuti" and pre-order the album here.
Ahead of the Carnival III rollout, Wyclef partnered with Certified Classics, an extension of Legacy Recordings, to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Carnival and the 10th anniversary of the Carnival II. Certified highlights the impact of key anniversaries of classic Hip Hip and R&B albums, all in an effort to preserve the culture. Learn more at: www.thisiscertified.com
"My Carnival albums have always been about celebrating music culture from all parts of the world and Carnival III is no different," says Wyclef.
"It's outside the box. There's genre-bending. There's new talent on there. Carnival III is more than just an album. It's a celebration of what I love about music: discovery, diversity and artistry for art's sake... It's about putting music together that will outlive me and live on for generations to come that is full of emotion, vibration and fun. Get ready."
In 2016, Wyclef was back yet again with another hit, "Hendrix," the first single off of his EP, J'Ouvert. "Hendrix" garnered over 20 million streams worldwide. Wyclef's influence on the new generation is evident with the creative connection with Young Thug, who named a track on mixtape, JEFFERY, "Wyclef Jean." The two musicians teamed up to record the Caribbean-inspired "I Swear," the third single off of J'Ouvert.
As big a comeback as "Hendrix" and "I Swear" have proven to be, one should not count on Fall and Rise of a Refugee as being an entire album full of mid-tempo tracks. "Do I have anything for the clubs?" he asks. "You're talking to The Carnival Man! I've done the biggest dance records of all time! I plan to put them on the dancefloor more so than ever. I know people want that dancefloor bounce from me — that hip hop thing."
The music that Wyclef Jean has written, performed, and produced — both as a solo superstar and as founder and guiding member of the Fugees — has been a consistently powerful, pop cultural force for over two decades. In 1996, the Fugees released their monumental album The Score. As a solo artist, he has released six albums that have sold nearly nine million copies worldwide, including his 1997 debut The Carnival and 2000's aptly titled The Eclectic: 2 Sides II a Book.

DIGINET GET TV, STAGES LENA HORNE BINGE TV EVENT.
In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of legendary star of music, stage, and screen Lena Horne (June 30, 1917 – May 9, 2010), one of the most iconic African American stars of the 20th century, getTV is proud to present a triple play of classic (and rare) Horne television appearances from the 1960s on Monday, June 26, 2017 from 9PM-12M
ET. Beautiful and classy, the mesmerizing song stylist was an MGM
contract player, recording artist, nightclub entertainer, Broadway star,
civil rights activist and a frequent guest performer on TV variety
shows from the late '50s through the '60s, when African-Americans were
still not regularly seen on primetime TV.
Up first is "MONSANTO NIGHT PRESENTS LENA HORNE," originally broadcast on September 10, 1969 on NBC. At 52, Horne was one of the first African-American women to solo host her own national primetime network TV special. The show features Horne performing classics such as "Stormy Weather" mixed with contemporary hits like "You Made Me So Very Happy" and even civil rights songs such as "I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel to Be Free." She welcomes soul singer O.C. Smith and actor David Janssen (TV's "The Fugitive") as guests.
"We're so proud to present three hours featuring Lena Horne during the week of the 100th anniversary of her birth," said Jeff Meier, Senior Vice President and General Manager of getTV, "For more recent generations who know her mainly from The Wiz, this is a chance to get more exposure to a vitally important performer who infused her performances with both elegance and intelligence. They don't make them like Lena Horne anymore."
At 10PM, two iconic divas meet up when Horne joins Judy Garland for a well-remembered episode of "THE JUDY GARLAND SHOW," first aired on CBS on October 13, 1963, where they perform both solo and together. A highlight features the two MGM alumni's doing a medley of many of their biggest hits such as "Honeysuckle Rose," "It's All Right with Me," "Love," "Meet Me in St. Louis" and "The Trolley Song." British comedian Terry Thomas (TV's "Burke's Law") also guests.
And at 11PM, Horne is the featured guest on an episode of "PERRY COMO'S KRAFT MUSIC HALL". Filmed on location in Boston, the show, first telecast on NBC on October 18, 1965, features Horne performing solo and with Como, with the two collaborating on a New England-themed medley that includes "Moonlight in Vermont" and "Old Cape Cod." Other guests include pianist Peter Nero and The Wellesley College Choir.
